Amphitheater Public Input Session

The Town of Rocky Mount will host a second opportunity next week for the public for review preliminary plans for a new venue on The Crooked Road.

"Our architects have taken public suggestions for preliminary plans for an amphitheatre, and it's time to refine those to get closer to a final report," said Matt Hankins, assistant town manager.

The architects will seek further public comment on their work at a public input session from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9 in the Town Council Chambers at 345 Donald Avenue in Rocky Mount.

No formal presentations will be made, and everyone who wishes to visit will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide comments, and review the work of Hill Studio, the project architects who are reporting on the best sites and elements for an amphitheatre. One-on-one time with architects will give everyone who wishes to visit the opportunity to give direction to the project.

The first public input session attracted over 40 visitors during the three-hour visitation to review initial plans, and town officials hope for an even larger crowd next week.

"We really want the public to come in and give this project a look," Hankins said. "This project is a key part of diversifying our economy and attracting visitors and tourism dollars to the community to look at all that Rocky Mount and Franklin County have to offer."

Once the architectural report is complete this fall, the Town will seek funding sources to help develop the amphitheatre. A complete architectural report will assist the Town's efforts to attract private and foundation funding for the music and performance venue.
