PUBLIC INVITED TO HELP NAME PIGS
Booker T. Washington National Monument recently added three new Tamworth pigs to the park's interpretive farm. The two six month old females and ten week old boar were acquired from Forever Young Farm in Rocky Mount, Virginia. After the pigs mature, the park intends to breed and promote the historic type of pig and continue educating school children and other visitors about the important roles of Tamworth pigs and other historic breeds of farm animals on Virginia farms in the mid-1800's.
Mos of the farm animals at the park have names, usually provided by employees or park volunteers. These pigs will be no exception, except this time, the park would like for visitors to have a chance to name the new farm animals. Booker T. Washington National Monument would like to invite the public to visit the park and see the new pigs and submit one new name for each pig. Names can be submitted at the visitor center desk along with the visitor's contact information. Names for the new pigs will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30th. Afterwards, the names will be reviewed and winners selected! The winning names may not necessarily be from the same visitor. Prizes will be awarded to those who provide the winning names, along with a photograph taken with the pigs!
