CHIEF OF POLICE
The Town of Rocky Mount Virginia seeks an experienced law enforcement leader to serve as the Chief of its department of 21 talented and dedicated sworn officers and staff. The ideal candidate will be an innovator and change agent in the field of law enforcement with a proven record of leadership and management in a police setting. A four-year degree in a law enforcement field is required, as well as experience in all aspects of police work. The Town wants a chief with hands-on experience designing and implementing successful community policing and community engagement strategies, combating drugs in at-risk communities and creating departments that take pride in customer service. This position provides direct supervision to all aspects of the department and the individual must have high standards and the mentoring, coaching and staff development skills required to create a department that meets and exceeds those standards. Rocky Mount, Virginia, is located south of Roanoke on US Route 220. Its population is near 5,000, but swells to over 10,000 during the day as the employment and school center for Franklin County. Rocky Mount is the gateway community on the Crooked Road, Virginia's Heritage Music Trail and is situated between the major recreation centers of Smith Mountain Lake, Philpott Lake and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rocky Mount may be the biggest "small" town in Virginia and it seeks a Chief who can deliver small town customer service while combating crime from a larger metropolitan region. Residency required within twelve months of employment. Salary $60,499 to $96,717. The expected hiring range: $60,499 to $70,160 depending on qualifications.
