 The Town of Rocky Mount seeks an interesting, dynamic, community-oriented planner with top-notch customer service and project management skills. Candidates should be eager to work in a small office with a family atmosphere, advocating for a town with recent visionary improvements, a long growth cycle and a healthy local business climate.
The Town's most recent planner left voluntarily after a successful three-year tenure.
The Town recently opened the Harvester Performance Center as a means to facilitate current and future economic development and growth. The successful applicant must help shepherd that economic growth through visionary planning, anticipating problems and implementing solutions. The ideal applicant will plan for future needs and push co-workers, planning commissioners, council members and the public to advocate for the Town's best interests and outcomes.
In order to be effective in the job, the applicant should be personable, approachable, professional and dedicated to setting and reaching goals in service to the Town. With this search, the Town desires to find a planner who wants to work in a small-town setting for a number of years. Applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, economics, public administration, civil engineering or a related field.
Rocky Mount desires multidisciplinary applicants, particularly those with past Geographic Information Systems training and experience. Experience in similar types of planning environments will be considered when determining which applicants to interview.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to train to earn AICP and Virginia certified zoning official status, and will be expected to join trade groups which will assist in personal and professional growth.

Town Planner Job Description 

Police Officer

Responsibilities will include but not limited to proactive patrol of corporate limits utilizing community policing methods; maintenance of open communication with supervisors and other officers by oral and written reports; conduct and/or assist others in investigations, traffic control, and event security; protect property and provide public safety services; accurately record information on standard forms and incident reports; testify in legal proceedings; perform basic law enforcement duties with the capability to exercise considerable judgment in application of local, state, and federal laws. Police Officer Job Description 








The Town of Rocky Mount has an opening for a part time gardener/grounds maintenance specialist. This is a new position that will take over the design, planting and maintenance of various Town-owned landscapes. It is a year-round position, working up to 25 hours a week during the growing season and fewer in the off season for planning, maintenance, and pruning.
