MAYOR & COUNCIL
The Town Council of Rocky Mount is the legislative policy making body of the Town government, which adheres to the Council-Manager form. The Council is composed of six members, elected at-large every two years in four-year staggered terms. The Mayor is the chief presiding officer of Town Council, is elected separately by the citizens, and serves a term of four years. The Mayor determines the membership of Council committees.

Responsibilities of the Town Council include:

Enacting ordinances, resolutions and orders necessary for the proper governing of the Town's affairs;

Review and adopt the annual budget;

Appoint citizens to serve on various boards and commissions, and to review and decide on recommendations from these bodies;

Appoints a Town Manager, Town Attorney, Town Clerk and Fire Marshall to serve at the pleasure of Council;

Establish policies and procedures to promote the general welfare of the Town and the health and safety of its residents;

Represent the Town at official functions; and
-
Other duties and responsibilities as authorized in the Town Charter and Code.
The Rocky Mount Town Council currently meets the second Monday of each month in Council Chambers at 345 Donald Avenue. Regular meetings begin at 7 p.m. in public session.
Dates and times for regular monthly meetings may be changed by resolution during the first meeting in July. The Council may choose to hold formal work sessions or special meetings, as it deems necessary, at other times during the month with adequate public notification.
