Rocky Mount Fills Vacant Leadership Position
The Town of Rocky Mount announced today the appointment of C. James Ervin as Town Manager. Ervin replaces Keith Holland who left Rocky Mount in March to become the City Manager of Galax, Virginia.
Ervin has been serving as the Town’s Assistant Town Manager/Community Development Director since March. Ervin has over 19 years of experience working in local government and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University, majoring in International Affairs and Political Science. Ervin also has graduate level education in Public Administration, also from Florida State University.
“We are excited to find someone with James’ enthusiasm and customer service approach to Town Government”, said Mayor Steven Angle. “He has just the experience with local government issues that the council is looking for.”
“I am looking forward to the great things to come in Rocky Mount and welcome the opportunity to be part of the Rocky Mount team”, said Ervin. “Rocky Mount is a dynamic and growing community that has managed to retain its cultural identity. The Town has an involved and engaged council and a dedicated and excellent workforce and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with both. Government should be fair, open, accessible, customer focused and user friendly and I will strive to create such an environment for the citizens of Rocky Mount.”
Ervin’s public service started with employment with the Florida State Board of Bar Examiners, an agency of the Florida Supreme Court. After moving to Virginia, he worked for 16 years with the City of Bedford. He currently serves on the Governor’s Interoperabilty Advisory Committee, a panel which addresses issues of intergovernmental operations for emergency management and first responders; the Virginia Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors; the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors; and is a member of the International City Managers Association.
Ervin, age 42, is married and has one child. Among his various interests has been participating in the Bedford area Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, Odyssey of the Mind, and other enrichment activities for youth. He will start his new duties with the Town on September 1.
