ROCKY MOUNT TOWN COUNCIL RECOGNIZES MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK

Rocky Mount Town Council has recognized its Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk in advance of the Annual Municipal Clerks Week May 4-10.

Council read a resolution honoring Clerk Patricia H. Keatts (pronounced KATES) and Stacey B. Sink during its regular monthly meeting Monday, April 14.

“We are extremely proud of the professional manner in which our clerks conduct complex and technical work, helping our Town government function efficiently and facilitating the work of the Town Council and the administration,” said Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins. “This is an honor well deserved.”

Town Council honored both staff members for the vital service they perform and their exemplary dedication to the Town of Rocky Mount as clerks.

Keatts is a Certified Municipal Clerk with the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Sink is working toward that same designation.

Sink serves as Clerk to various commissions and committees appointed by the Rocky Mount Town Council, namely the Town of Rocky Mount Planning Commission and the Town of Rocky Mount Board of Zoning Appeals. The Deputy Clerk clerks in the absence of the Town Clerk the Rocky Mount Town Council meetings. The Deputy Clerk also serves as Administrative Assistant for the Community Development Department.

The Town Clerk’s main functions are to serve at the pleasure of the Rocky Mount Town Council. Other duties include, but are not limited to, preparing agendas, taking minutes, maintaining ordinances and resolutions files, maintaining and updating the Code of the Town of Rocky Mount, keeping the municipality’s historical records, keeping and attesting the Town seal, and serving as the clearinghouse for information about the local government. Keatts also serves as Executive Assistant to the Town Manager.

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) sponsors the Annual Municipal Clerks Week, May 4 through 10, now in its 39th year.

The IIMC was founded in 1947 and is a professional non-profit association with 10,000 members throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries.

IIMC provides services and continuing education opportunities in 46 permanent college-and university-based learning centers. IIMC offers Municipal and Deputy Clerks a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) Program and a Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) Program, along with other opportunities to benefit members and the government entities they serve.
