The Rocky Mount Police Department and the entire Town is mourning the loss of one of its finest. 

Officer Jason Maxey was killed early Saturday morning in a crash on US 220 in Roanoke.

In addition to serving the Town and citizens of Rocky Mount, Maxey also served  his country in the United States Navy and the National Guard, having returned recently from an 18 month peace keeping mission is Kosovo.

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Virginia’s second annual sales tax holiday on energy efficient products will take place October 10-13, 2008. During this year’s holiday, high-efficiency products with ENERGY STAR or WaterSense certification will be exempt from sales tax. The 2008 holiday follows national Energy Conservation Awareness Week, October 6-10.
