Water and Water Quality

The Town of Rocky Mount is pleased to announce that its Water Department has earned a Silver Award for Excellence in Filtration and Clarification from the Virginia Department of Health for the calendar year 2010.  The Silver Award is achieved when a water filtration facility meets or exceeds specified criteria for filtered water quality and filter backwash performance. Plants that meet these criteria are said to be producing water that is at least three times cleaner than required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and demonstrating excellence in their day-to-day operations.  This recent award also follows a third place finish for Rocky Mount at the water tasting contest put on by the Virginia Rural Water Association during their annual conference this past April.

The Water Department's 2010 Silver Award could not have been achieved without a committment from the entire Water Department staff to operate the plant at a performance level greater than the minimum regulatory requirements on a daily basis.  It is the continued goal of the Water Department to provide the citizens of Rocky Mount with clean, safe drinking water.

The Annual Drinking Water Quality Report is designed to inform the citizens of the Town of Rocky Mount about the Town's drinking water quality.  The Town's goal is to provide its citizens with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water, as well as to inform citizens about the efforts made to protect the water supply. The quality of the Town's drinking water must meet the State and Federal requirements administered by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

The Town of Rocky Mount drinking water supply meets all drinking water standards, is continuously tested, and is safe to drink. In addition, the Town of Rocky Mount did not have any MCL or TT violations occurring during the year, and there were no monitoring violations to report, as none occurred.
