The Town of Rocky Mount gets its drinking water from the Blackwater River. Your Water Department operates a conventional water treatment plant with a total capacity of 2 million gallons per day that purifies the water you drink. Our water then passes through thousands of feet of water lines ranging from 2” to 16” in diameter. Five storage tanks hold up to 2.4 million gallons of water for drinking, for industry, for fire flow and for emergency supply. The Water Department relies heavily on the Towns Public Works Department for support in keeping our water lines repaired and flowing at all hours of the day and night.
Below you will find a link to our Annual Drinking Water Quality Report which is intended to inform the citizens of the Town of Rocky Mount about the Town's drinking water quality. Our treatment techniques, processes and minimum quality standards are based on State and Federal regulations administered by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
We are proud to report that our drinking water supply meets all drinking water standards, is continuously tested, and is safe to drink.
The Town of Rocky Mount is pleased to announce that its Water Department has earned a Gold Performance Award for Excellence in Filtration, Backwash and Clarification from the Virginia Department of Health for the calendar year 2014. Performance Awards are achieved when a water filtration facility routinely exceeds specified criteria. Plants that meet these criteria are said to be producing water that is at least three times cleaner than required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and demonstrating excellence in their day-to-day operations. This recent award is the 6th award the Water Department has received since 2007.
The Water Department's recent awards could not have been achieved without a commitment from the entire Water Department staff to operate the plant at a performance level higher than required on a daily basis. It is the continued goal of the Water Department to provide the citizens of Rocky Mount with clean, safe drinking water!
